The TUKS Student Surgical Society (TSSS) was officially founded in March 2016 by a group of dynamic medical students from the University of Pretoria.  Bronwyn Krause, a fifth year medical student at the time, identified an opportunity to help those students who are interested in pursuing a future surgical career.

The founding committee consisted of approximately 15 students, committed to getting the society off the ground. In its first year, the society garnered over 500 members, hosted two successful workshop series and won the bid to host the 2017 International Association of Student Surgical Societies Symposium at the University of Pretoria.

TSSS strives to primarily advance the science and art of surgery; to provide adequate opportunities and promote the development of basic surgical skills necessary at an undergraduate level and for general future practice.

In the future TSSS hopes to grow in both strength and numbers; by expanding the scope of our workshops and lecture series, promoting research at an undergraduate level and furthering our involvement in community engagement projects.
