The Impilo Yesizwe (Health of the Nation) trust, established by Rand Merchant Bank (RMB) in October 2010 to participate in the MTN BEE transaction, has provided funding to Surgeons for Little Lives to uplift the lives of children and babies in state-run hospitals. RMB’s donation was allocated towards building a lactation and breast milk facility at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, which will include breast-milk expressing rooms, a milk processing plant, a breast milk bank, a transport network and an antenatal and postnatal education facility.
This contribution fell outside of its corporate social investment spend as a percentage of after tax profits. Instead, RMB has applied its intellectual capital, balance sheet and structuring expertise to participate in a transaction for the ultimate benefit of others. In addition, RMB will deliver a gesture of brightness and holiday cheer to the children in the paediatric wards at the hospital this December, by donating R100 000 donation towards festive hampers.
500X Christmas packs each containing a colouring book, colour pencils, pens, toy, snack, sweets, toiletries and a teddy bear. These were handed out by our Paediatric surgeons in all the Paediatric wards at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital on the 22nd and 25th December 2017. The beautiful bright yellow bears were a donation from Lewis (Bedzone and Bears), these were a cherry on top as it brightened the kids’ faces as they received them, thank you Lewis.
