The “ Mumz with Hearts” hosted a Pudding & Wine fundraising evening on Thursday the 26th October, for the upgrade of the Ablution Facilities of Ward 32, this includes the Bathroom Facilities and a Locker Room area for the nursers. We shared the vision of Surgeons for Little Lives, the Proposed Design for Ward 32 and treated the ladies to pudding and wine, before the bidding on the Ward 32 Revamp items began.
The ablution facilities currently consist of a small bath and a toddler toilet (which has been leaking since January). These facilities serve in excess of 30 kids on a daily basis. With the assistance of architects, we have re-imagined the space to improve the facilities of our brave little ones heading for operations. The nursers currently have no private area to change or store their personal belongings. Lockers are fitted into spaces were available in the ward.
The format of the fundraiser was a Bid Board with items required for the proposed re-design; from door handles, to basins, toilets, baths, paint etc. We asked our bidders to “buy a potty for the ward” on the night, thereby knowing exactly what items they contributed. This was not an auction in the true sense of the word, so once an item has been bid on, it was effectively “sold”.
We had an excellent response and are so pleased with the items that have been sponsored from the night. This includes
- One new bath;
- A stainless steel baby-bath;
- A stainless steel changing bench;
- Three Basins;
- A new toilet;
- A Shower;
- Two Basin Mixers;
- Many Tins of Paint;
- Many Boxes of Tiles, and
- In addition we had a number of cash donations towards building costs.
To benefit from the momentum created by the generosity during our recent Pudding & Wine, we would like to invite you to “bid for your potty” online at https://littlelivesauction.singular.co.za/.
You will be required to register, obtain a username and password, and then you can peruse the “lots”. Items start from as little as R130. You place your bid and once the auction closes on the 10 November, you will be emailed the banking details and your successful lots and the amount to be transferred to the Surgeons for Little Lives bank account.
We look forward to keeping you updated as we progress with our targets. The auction website will be updated continually to reflect what has been sold.
The Bathrooms and Nurses Lockers & Change Rooms are urgent and our first focus, the greater plan of ward renovation ( includes a kiddies fun and library, front office and boardroom, new medical supply room, kitchen & storeroom and pause area for patients and parents) has also been drawn up.
