Lactation Unit & Breast Milk Bank
Children often arrive at the Paediatric Surgical Ward with nothing but the clothes on their backs, and often, especially in the case of burns or serious trauma, without even that.
Background
Currently there is no Milk Bank facility in the greater Gauteng area, in Baragwanath Hospital mothers express milk in the Neonatal corridors. A need exist for mothers to express their breast milk in a clean professional environment with dignity, supported by trained lactation experts.
