The Premier staff came to visit Ward 32 at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital on Monday 5 September 2016. They arranged a puppet show and party packs for all the kids. That was their Mandela Day.
We spoke to Anne Bouwer from Premier about the initiative.
Premier tries to dedicate time and resources to social upliftment during the year and Surgeons for Little Lives is one of the charities that we love to support. Sometimes you just have to take time out from the hustle bustle of work to do something meaningful for someone else.
We hope that we managed to provide some fun and entertainment for the children at the clinic and those who could get up to watch the puppet show. We also spent time visiting and chatting the children in the Burns Unit. It also gave us all the opportunity to reflect on our own privileged situation and the need to help others less fortunate, especially children.
In previous years we have spent our Mandela Day 67 Minutes at Ward 32 with the children and this charity, and the little people who benefit from their work, have found a special place in our hearts.
The main purpose of the visit was to put on a wonderful Puppet Show and spend time with the children in Ward 32 and those waiting at the Clinic. Wendy Griffiths from Puppet World was kind enough to donate her performance. It was something fun for them to watch that they probably wouldn’t get to see otherwise and hopefully to distract them for a little while from their illness. We also brought little goodie bags with some snacks and treats as well as some toiletries and drawing materials for the ward.
